Don Blake is walking through the rain, when a police officer pulls up and tells him that he needs to get in touch with Thor, that the Commissioner wants to see him. When Thor arrives, he meets Bennet Barlow, Damocles' brother; Bennet tells Thor their history; Meanwhile, Damocles oversees the final construction of his cobalt cannon; And in a prison, a mysterious figure is broken out by a monstrous inhuman creature; Bennet is leading Thor to his old home in hope of finding a clue to Damocles' current whereabouts; But Damocles is waiting with his completed cobalt cannon, and blasts Thor, then flies away. Balder is leading the construction of Odin's Pillar of Sovereignty, but one of the cables snaps, threatening to kill many; But Thor swiftly saves the day and finishes setting the pillar; In punishment, Loki is cast down to Earth without memory; All the heroes bid farewell, while Thor heads to Earth; Blake goes to see Jacob Wallaby, to get an idea of what he might do; Jacob suggests that he volunteer at a free clinic, if he needs freedom of movement; Then Damocles breaks in and steals a synthetic cobalt lent to the hospital by Stark International. An image of Loki reveals that he stole the Destroyer from Galactus' ship; The Destroyer then begins attacking Thor, and crash through walls and floors, then the Warriors Three arrive to help Thor; Thor sends them back out to find the sleeping Odin, and they come across Kroda, Magrat, and Snaykar, and they follow them silently; Karnilla and Sif arrive to help Thor, but Karnilla discovers that she cannot continue her mystical attack, because it is Balder that is inside the Destroyer. Loki now rules Asgard in Odin's stead, by his own royal decree contained in the Cask of Sovereignty, and even Thor must obey him; Loki knows that he must dispose of Odin if he wants to keep the throne; Loki then reveals that he was behind the empty army, and that Kroda was the second Thor, and that the document from the Cask was a forgery; The Enchantress and Executioner steal the sleeping form of Odin; Sif, Thor, and Recorder head to Karnilla's domain to find Balder, while the Warriors Three are charged to protect Odin; Thor's group in then assaulted by two Storm Giants, and Thor defeats them both.

K'rll begins attacking the Asgardians through the Odin beast. He knocks them all down, and all that's left is Volstagg; When the Odin beast moves towards him, a blast of pure force shoots from his hands, hurting the beast; Fighting Volstagg's new power, the beast uses itself up and dissipates, which causes feedback through the Soul Survivors systems, destroying them; Thor then has Volstagg apply his powers to try and revive Odin, to no avail; Then K'rll runs in screaming about how the Asgardians have destroyed everything and he will kill them all; Thor grabs him and is about to begin pounding on him, when Mjolnir suddenly flies into his hand; He then realizes that Odin is alive. Appearances by Sif, Hogun, Fandral, Volstagg, the Recorder, and Odin.

Thor tries to free himself from his bonds, but cannot; The Soul Survivors tell him the origin of themselves and of the Doomsday Star; That they are the ones that intercepted Odin; They then take Thor's group to see him; They are using Odin as a battery and they have almost drained him dry; Back in Asgard, the second Thor leads Balder and Karnilla into Asgard, then assaults them; Thor is speaking to a very weak Odin, when Odin apparently dies; In his rage, Thor begins to tear through all the Techno-trackers with ease, as Hogun, Volstagg, and Recorder arrive; With nothing else to do, K'rll places himself in the Spirit Mold and gives form to the remaining Odinpower still in the batteries, creating a beast made of pure Odinforce.

Thor and his comrades attempt to breach the enormous wall around the Doomsday Star, to no avail; Back in Asgard, a cloaked figure watches them, along with Balder and Karnilla with great interest; While he is watching, they vanish in the blink of an eye; The second Thor shows Balder that the Enchantress and Executioner where phantasms, but Karnilla senses something is wrong; When Thor and friends come to, the Starjammer is gone and they are standing in a city behind the wall they sought to breach; They are attacked by robotic Techno trackers, and during the battle, Hogun, Volstagg, and Recorder are separated from Thor, Sif, and Fandral. On the Phoenix of Freedom, the Recorder attempts to download any information about the Doomsday Star; Back in Asgard, Balder disguises himself to sneak out and try to determine the strength of the enemy army; He sneaks into their encampment and discovers that the suits of armor are empty, brought to life by the Enchantress; As Thor gets ready to leave the Phoenix, he discovers that the Warriors Three have mounted one of the ship's great cannons aboard the Starjammer; Back in Asgard, Balder is discovered by the Enchantress and Executioner; Balder fights the Executioner, but Enchantress secretly lends him sorcerous aid; Now having a map, Thor and the Asgardians come across a vast group of floating statues, one of which raises its hand and strikes. Igron tells Thor how he came across a diminutive Mangog in the dungeon; Igron then stole a portion of each Asgardians life force to bring Mangog back to power, which explained their lethargic state; After Odin regained his memory and left Earth for Asgard, he disappeared and never arrived; Igron then cast a spell to make Mangog look like Odin, and thus their plan was born; The guards then attack Thor and while he is distracted, Mangog strikes him down; Elsewhere, the warriors rally the people to their cause, but when they arrive at the gates, they see Thor shackled up like a scarecrow; As they strike, Mangog (back in disguise), transforms them all to animals; He finally snaps and kills Igron as well, which ends his disguise and everyone knows it's really Mangog and not Odin; Thor manages to break himself free, and races Mangog to the Odinsword. Appearances by Hogun, Fandral, Volstagg, Sif, Balder, Karnilla, and Hildegarde.

Thor goes to try and talk to Odin, but is prevented by the palace guards and a mystic field that even Mjolnir cannot penetrate; Odin has his men move the Odinsword to the throne room, where he can pull it from the scabbard at a moment's notice; The group goes to seek Karnilla's help in breaching the mystic barrier; Thor barely manages to get through before it reseals itself; Thor then confronts Odin, only to have him reveal that it's not really Odin at all - it's Mangog sitting upon the Odinsword.
