There are many stories in the mean city, and two of them are in the JLA Annual. First, the Martian Manhunter sets out to investigate a murder that Batman, Superman and the rest of the League considers solved. But J'onn thinks otherwise and he sets out to prove it, over the objections of his comrades in this psychological thriller. As his investigation deepens, J'onn begins to lose himself--losing his mind and his identity in the process--and unexpectedly finds himself in the arms of a beautiful woman. In another hard-boiled story, the JLA runs through the rain-slicked streets of New York City, desperate to avoid detection, and its members unable to use their powers! Why are they so afraid? Who are they running from? And just what has happened to their powers, anyway?
