    Kyojin no Hoshi (translated as Star of the Giants or Hoshi of the Giants) is a foundational 1960s-1970s Japanese sports anime and manga series that popularized the spokon (sports perseverance) genre. Written by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by Noboru Kawasaki, the story follows the intense life of Hyūma Hoshi as he trains to become a top professional baseball pitcher. 


    Hyūma Hoshi is forced into a harsh, abusive training regime from early childhood by his bitter father, Ittetsu Hoshi, a former baseball player whose career was ended by a war injury. Ittetsu aims for his son to become the "star of the Giants" (the Yomiuri Giants professional team) to fulfill his own lost dreams. he series is defined by extreme, often sadistic physical training, psychological pressure, and complete ascetic devotion to baseball, forcing Hyūma to sacrifice his youth for the game.
